When thinking of planning a mountaineering holiday, be sure to follow a few of these rules:

Always come prepared - Carefully plan out what supplies will be needed on your trip, and always assume that you may need additional food, water and warm clothing should you run into any problems while on the trip. There is nothing worse than being under preapred as this is when accidents can happen. If you are an inexperienced climber, don’t be afraid to seek mountain training from a professional, who can teach you how to handle yourself in the wild outdoors.

Check with your local met office for updates on wind, rain and any other factors which can be problematic for climbers. While mountaineering is often left to the experts, even a beginner can find a good number of climbing spots to enjoy for a holiday. What is a Memory Foam?

It has only recently become widely available in the form of mattresses, pillows and toppers. You might be surprised to learn then that memory foam was actually invented in the 70s by the NASA space programme. Its original purpose was to reduce the pressure on an astronaut’s body during take off and landing.

Later the material was then taken up by Swedish scientists who carried on the work started by NASA. They could see that the material could be used in other areas of our daily lives, particularly in sleep. Scientists spent years working on memory foam and succeeded in stabilising the material. The first kinds of memory foam mattresses were made available in the 90s. These mattresses were extremely expensive as huge research and development costs had to be recouped.

Fast forward to today and memory products have dropped significantly in price. On top of this the material has further been refined and manufacturers are experienced in dealing with it. Why is memory foam great?

It works differently to other kinds of mattresses. When you lie on your old standard sprung mattress the springs push back against your body. This can create pressure points and exacerbate aches and pains.
